ALUMNI BASKETBALL GAMES 2008 PROVE SUCCESSFUL

Nearly 50 Roadrunner basketball alumni returned to the UW-Richland campus on Saturday, March 1, for the annual Homecoming – Red vs. Blue Alumni Basketball event. For the first time in the history of the games, two men’s games were featured as alumni officials decided to have offer both "older" and "younger" games. Cheryl Crook, alumni association president, was very pleased with the response to the new format and found it encouraging that 16 older alumni registered for the game.

Response was even stronger for the younger men’s alumni game. And all agreed more "recruiting" needs to be done for the women’s game as players literally needed to be recruited from the stands to make sure each team had a full complement of players.

Matters weren’t helped any when, with 1:15 left in the women’s game, Darcy Willis McDermott, slammed into opposing player Jennifer Salisbury … and broke her clavicle. This was only the second time in alumni game history that an injury has occurred.

Players are being surveyed to determine whether next year’s event will take place on Saturday, February 14, or Saturday, March 7.
